What does your character want?
Welcome back to Storytelling 101!
Yesterday, we talked about the character.
Today, we're going one step further.
Because having a great character isn't enough.
We need to know what they want.
Do they want to:
→ Get married?
→ Land the job?
→ Start a business?
→ Save their company?
→ Prove someone wrong?
→ Find their purpose?
Whatever it is, we need to see that character want something badly.
Because once we know what they want, the question that keeps us watching is:
Will they get it?
The rest of the story becomes a journey toward, or away from, the thing that character wants most.
Tomorrow, we're going to make things even more interesting.
Because we're introducing the thing that stands between your character and what they want:
The obstacle.
The opposing force.
The thing that gets in the way.
And trust me…
That's when the story gets really interesting.
